Law enforcement actually proves itself useful for a change?

I know I have a fairly idealistic view of pretty much everything, but one thing I’ve especially never been huge on is law enforcement. It’s not that I don’t believe they should exist, or anything similarly ignorant; murderers need to be punished, and truly “bad” people should not be allowed to exist within normal society. I do, however have a problem with the idea that current-day “criminals” have done nothing more than download a few songs from their favorite P2P software, and are being put in the same prisons as violent offenders. The entire justice system needs an overhaul, but unfortunately in this day and age of ‘Survival of the Afraidest’, I fear that things will get much worse before they get better.

With that said, it was with much relief that I read in a CNN article today that 700 suspected pedophiles worldwide have been arrested in a globally coordinated sting operation, spanning nearly 10 months and 35 countries. This number of arrested pedophiles is only trumped by the number of children that were discovered and returned to their families: 31. Thirty-friggin-one. While it honest to God turns my stomach when I even try to fathom what these kids might have gone through, the sheer fact that they may eventually be able to return to some semblance of a regular life one day gives me what I can only describe as spine shivers.

I’d like a tiny umbrella with my virgin rye and Coke

It’s Monday, and you know what that means: back to work.  That wonderful day of the week where the coffee can’t flow fast enough, and the memories of the recently past weekend flood your brain, rather than the TPS reports due on the boss’ desk by 5pm.  While you sit in your cubicle, you daydream about the beers you drank while sitting on the deck Friday night, or the softball game your kid played on Sunday afternoon, completely oblivious to the fact that you haven’t even turned your computer on and it’s already getting close to lunchtime.

Oh that’s right – I don’t work.

Yet another Walmart ethics controversy

This woman is (essentially) being fired because she was being attentive and thought there was some insider trading going on.  She did misunderstand, however it looks like they’re probably going to strongarm her out of the company.  Does this surprise anyone?
